Price Ranges Across the GTA
Most laundry services in Toronto charge by the pound. A few use flat-rate pricing. Here is how the numbers shake out for a typical residential load of 12-15 lbs.
| Price Range | Per Load (est.) | Services |
|---|---|---|
| $1.25/lb | ~$16 | Tumbil, Duffloo |
| $1.69/lb | ~$22 + $9.90 delivery | CleaNova |
| $2.25/lb | ~$29 + $12.99 delivery | WeDoLaundry |
| $2.45-$2.80/lb | ~$32-$36 | DoMyLaundry, Simply Laundry, Gibsons |
| $35/load flat rate | $35 (free delivery) | WashMates |
| $59+/bag | $59+ | Rinse (subscription) |

Per-Pound vs Flat-Rate: Which Is Better?
Both models have tradeoffs. The right one depends on your laundry habits and what kind of loads you typically do.
Per-Pound Pricing
- Cheaper for small, light loads
- More options to choose from
- - Final cost unknown until weighing
- - Heavy items (towels, jeans) cost more
- - Delivery fees may apply
Flat-Rate Pricing
- Know the exact price before booking
- Better value for heavy loads
- No delivery fee surprises
- - May cost more for very light loads
- - Fewer services offer this model
Hidden Costs to Watch For
The headline price per pound is not always the full story. Here are costs that can catch you off guard.
Delivery fees
Some services charge $9.90 to $12.99 per delivery. A $1.69/lb rate on a 13-lb load comes to $22, but add a $9.90 delivery fee and you are actually paying $32.
Minimum order requirements
Some services require a minimum spend ($20-$55) or minimum weight (13 lbs). If your load is below the minimum, you may pay more than expected per pound.
Surcharges for bulky items
Comforters, duvets, and heavy blankets sometimes get charged at a premium rate or as separate items. Check the fine print if you plan to include bedding.
Subscription lock-in
A few services offer lower per-load prices if you commit to a weekly or monthly subscription. That is great if you use it consistently, but you may end up paying for weeks you skip.
The Time-Value Calculation
Cost only tells half the story. The other half is what your time is worth. Here is a simple way to think about it.
~90 min
Active time per load
6-8 hrs
Weekly for a family of four
$23/hr
Your effective hourly rate at $35/load
A single load of laundry takes roughly 90 minutes when you account for everything: sorting, loading the washer, switching to the dryer, folding, and putting clothes away. That is not 90 minutes of sitting around. It is 90 minutes of getting up, going back, and handling things throughout the day.
At $35/load, you are effectively paying $23/hour for someone else to handle all of it. If your household income is above the GTA median, that rate is well below what your time is worth. For anyone earning above $23/hour (or who simply values their evenings and weekends), the service pays for itself in time saved.
Put another way: a family of four doing 4 loads per week spends 6-8 hours on laundry every week. That adds up to hundreds of hours a year. At $35/load, outsourcing those 4 loads costs $140/week (plus the 13% Ontario HST). Whether that tradeoff makes sense depends entirely on how you want to spend that time.
When Is Laundry Service Worth It?
Laundry service is not for everyone. It makes the most sense in specific situations.
- Dual-income households where both partners work full-time and weekends are already packed.
- Parents with young kids who generate a lot of laundry and have very little spare time.
- Professionals who bill hourly and would literally earn more by working during laundry time.
- Anyone who genuinely dislikes doing laundry and would rather spend $35 than 90 minutes folding.
- People recovering from surgery or injury who cannot easily manage the physical parts of laundry.
